October 2011 Webster Buchanan Global Payroll Summit

Graham Jenkins was a key note speaker at the Webster Buchanan Global Payroll Summit held in San Francisco on 18th & 19th October.

Graham participated in the opening confidential clinics attended by a number of global companies, where each company was given the opportunity to discuss their issues and plans for global transformation and to receive guidance and expert opinion from a small number of experienced consultants, comprising Graham and a number of Webster Buchanan consultants.

In addition, Graham delivered two key note speeches during the global summit;

- Is your value proposition lost in a fog of issues?

In this speech, Graham examined whether, faced with a number of key issues along the payroll transformation and outsourcing journey, both clients and service providers might be losing sight of the value proposition of the global payroll initiative. In his speech, Graham argued that companies are often so focused on the 'what', 'where', 'who' and 'when' that they are losing focus on the 'why'.

- Payroll Process Controls; Prevention is better than Cure

In this speech, Graham looked at the governance issues facing global & regional payroll process owners, and made a compelling case for implementing preventative control measures across the end to end payroll process. Graham recommended a methodology, developed by The Consultant Connection Limited to provide the assurance on the key elements of the payroll process.

Finally, Graham was part of the closing Q & A panel, focusing on the 'Do's and Don'ts' in building vendor relationships. There was a lively debate in which Graham argued the case for increased due diligence by clients and service providers PRE CONTRACT in complex payroll outsourcing deals. Graham also led a discussion on avoiding the typical adversarial nature of the contracting process by ensuring payroll subject matter experts lead the negotiation, rather than procurement and legal.
